Bates Nut Farm

I can't believe it's been almost a month since I last posted on here! Time is just flying by. We've been busy with day to day fun of going to parks, spending time with familyand friends, and starting out another season of a Moms Group at my church, The Movement. I am a leader this year and that is a lot of fun! I have a wonderful table of young moms just like me and we have a lot of fun!

The kids are incredible. Every day they amaze me. Tristan is talking all the time now and learning new words and phrases every day! He is so smart it is mind-blowing. He's so loving and compassionate and full of energy it's almost hard to keep up with him. Kira is the most cheerful little baby you will ever meet. She crawls around at the speed of light, is strong enough to stand up to her brother when he tried to pull a toy out of her hand, and her smiles always brighten up the room!

I've been a bit preoccupied with doctors visits and such, due to a flare up in my Irritable Bowel Syndrome. It's been going on about 6 weeks now and it looks like I will need to have a colonoscopy at the end of this month to determine what is wrecking my body for so long. Not the most pleasant of occurrences, but that is what has been going on. It is what it is, right?

We went to Bates Nut Farm on Saturday to spend some time in the ginormous(is that a word?) pumpkin patch and the kids absolutely loved it! We saw farm animals, tractors, hay, pumpkins - and for some reason my kids were totally amused by all of that. It was a REALLY hot day, but they didn't care. They giggled the whole way home in their car seats and then took a really good nap afterward.

We picked up the kids' Holloween Costumes this past weekend also. Tristan is Superman and Kira is a Pink Bunny with a Carrot Rattle. Soooo cute .... Drew is going to be a Monk and I am going to be a Nun. I will post some pictures as soon as I get new cord for my camera. Kira chewed it up when I wasn't looking and now I can't upload any photos from my camera to my laptop. Oh well ....

We've got a wedding coming up this weekend and then a little overnighter getaway for Drew and I to celebrate our dear friends' birthdays. It will be wierd being away from the kids for so long, but also refreshing to spend that time together. They will be in good hands. So I will have no need to worry.

That's it for now, I shall try to be more faithful in updating this blog from now on ...

Decorating for Fall

Tristan and I pulled out our "Fall Decorations" box a couple of days ago. He was so excited to put out the pumpkins and leaves, etc... It was so precious, when I pulled out our wood plaques that Grandma Meef had made for us, Tristan immediately recognized them and said, "These too at Grandma's House!" and I said, "Yes, Tristan, Grandma made these for us" and so now whenever he walks by them, he says, "Grandma made these". Soooo cute! It's amazing what these little ones remember!

Happy Days

We are just cruising along, playing all day, going to parks, continuing potty training, and getting Kira motivated to walk. It is such a blessing to be a mommy and I fall more in love with my kids every day.

We spend our week learning our ABC's and our Numbers, and Tristan talks my head off all day long ... Tristan gets time with his Yia Yia in Encinitas once a week, and occasionally we have family dinners at Boppa and Grandma's House.

Last weekend, we went and visited some good friends who moved to Ramona a few months back. It was nice to see their new home and have Tristan reunite with his little girlfriend "Maile".

Kira is teething again, so we've had some rough nights, but overall, God is good, and we're happy to be healthy and well cared for, as Drew works really hard for us. It is such a blessing, because I have the privilege of staying home with my beautiful children!

We had an ant infestation in our pantry last night ---- ahhhhhhhh! Had to throw away a lot of food. Luckily Drew is amazing and he sealed the hole in the pantry that the ants were coming in through.

Potty Training

A few weeks back, Tristan decided to start potty training himself. One day he said to me, "Mommy, go pee pee in potty" and that was it. He picked out his own potty from the store and as soon as we brought it home he went to the bathroom in it! Woohoo!

We watch videos about toilets and potty training all day long and he now reads books when he sits on the potty - so cute! He is so proud of himself when he goes and it's so fun to be apart of this stage in his development!

9/9/09

August was a crazy month ...

* We had Kira's birthday
* Busy house hunting all during the week and weekends ...
* Community Garage Sale/Tristan's best friend Maile and her family moved to Ramona
* My family flew in from Spain
* I was husband-less for 2 weeks while Drew participated in pre-wedding fun with Scott
* Scott and MA's Wedding
* Kira started crawling/Tristan started talking (not stop!)
* We put an offer down on a house in San Marcos and it was submitted to the bank for approval!

And now, we are in September, and the kids have just gotten over the flu and things seem to be settling a bit. We had a nice relaxing Labor Day Weekend, spent it with dear friends in North Park. Drew is starting worship again at The Movement (our church) this weekend after a year long break (because Kira was born).

I hear a little voice from the other room saying, "Mommy play with me" ... looks like I am being summoned.

A Year Ago, Today ...

A year ago, today, I was in labor with Kira. That was when the challenges of motherhood doubled. But so did my blessings. Two little angels entered my life and have turned it upside down. I am not the same person I was 2 years ago, and I owe that to Tristan and Kira. I feel they have grown me up, taught me patience, taught me the true meaning of sacrifice, and continually they are teaching me how to be a mom. It is amazing! Through all the sleepless nights, poopie diapers, tooth aches, earaches, separation anxiety, temper tantrums, bumps and bruises ... at the end of the day, all I choose to remember is the sound of their laughter, the hugs, the kisses, the snuggle times, the rolling on the floor times, the funny moments, embarrassing moments, the times of reading in bed together, learning new things together ... and all that combined is what makes my life so wonderful and motherhood such a blessing.

Growing Up ...

These 2 kids 0f mine have both achieved something new this week ...

Tristan has learned to put on his own shoes all by himself!

Kira has learned to go from the crawling position to the sitting position all on her own!

It is so amazing to see them grow and develop into such smart little munchkins!

A Challenging Season

We've had a challenging past few weeks, with my grandma passing away, Drew losing a potential job opportunity, and the offer on a house we loved fell through. We've been relying on our joy in the Lord, since all the circumstances can be depressing if our eyes aren't on Him. Luckily, through all this, we have 2 little angels whose love and personalities are so innocent and precious. They brighten our days and give us hope for the future! It's amazing how children are medicine to the soul. Shyra was here for 5 days during my Grandma's Funeral week, and that was a breath of fresh air. She brings such joy everywhere she goes!

We've been keeping busy with more househunting, kids birthday parties, baby showers, bridal showers, etc... Drew has been busy preparing for Scott's wedding, as he is one of the Best Men and organizing the Bachelor Party and many other things.

Kira is turning one yr old this Saturday. Oh my! She is a little bundle of energy and always smiling. Her and Tristan play so well together and it's really cool to see their bond as brother and sister grow more and more each day.

Tristan is our "outdoor" little man, as he is always fascinated with drains, sprinklers, water pipes, mud, puddles, trash trucks, bugs ... the list goes on! He is all boy and we have a blast! Except when he carries Kira's toy purse around, while wearing my shoes, and talking on his toy cell phone - now THAT brings much laughter to our home.

I have made it my priority to take the kids and visit my Grandpa 2 or 3 times a week. My heart is heavy for him, now that he is all alone and our hope is that we can cheer him up and keep him company and bring a little joy to his life, if possible. I couldn't imagine being left alone after 55 years of marriage! Tristan and Kira love his house and we have a great time hanging out, eating lunch together, and seeing Papi (he joins us in our visits, too!).

Summer Days

We've been busy the past couple weeks as you can tell, since I haven't updated my blog in a while! We've been busy househunting, organizing playdates for Tristan with his friends, and grilling in the backyard ... We've done other fun things like take the kids to the bug fair at the Encinitas Quail Botanical Gardens and to the little water park in San Elijo. We've been trying to stay cool by splashing around the water table out back, and using our community pool. It's great being all healthy again and enjoying being a family with fun and crazy kids.

Tristan is obsessed with drains these days. Especially "dirty drains" as he calls them. We go on walks in the neighborhood and find all the drains. It's amazing how much joy that brings to him. He even calls the airvents in our house "drains" and is continually mesmerized by them. Parks aren't just about swings and slides, but they are about going on a drain search and stomping on them and putting leaves down them, etc...etc...

Kira is in love with brushing her teeth. She wants to brush her teeth all the time and she can already do it all by herself! It's amazing. If she's ever cranky (which is not that often), you just hand her a toothbrush and she is the happiest girl in the world! She's been busy figuring out how to get around the house by scooting, rolling, and jumping forward on her bottom. It's hysterical. She's busy and noisy and thinks that Tristan is the funniest dude in the world. She laughs at him all the time.

We went to the beach last week with Boppa, Grandma and Mom Mom. Tristan loved being in the sand and catching sand crabs. He built a sand castle with Boppa and every time he sees sand at the park on in movies, he says, "Boppa, sand!" Kira got attacked by a wave while we were there, but she's a trooper, and she had fun nonetheless.

Tristan just learned how to do the limbo by watching one of his KidsSongs dvd's and it's so cute to watch him try! He's quite the dancer these days ... He's also quite the mischeif maker. He got a hold of the baby powder and poured it all around our backyard. "Snow, mama!" That's one way to have snow in summer. It was fun!

We have a full weekend ahead of us with kids' birthday parties, and a baby shower. And probably more househunting, since the house we put an offer on did not get accepted. We're bummed, but excited because that means God has something better for us!

JULY HAS ARRIVED

We had a fun 4th of July Weekend ... started out the evening before, when we met Drew's family for dinner at Filipi's Pizza. Kira tasted her first black olives and was hooked - sooo cute! Tristan was more into finding the pinball machines, than actually eating pizza, but then we walked around outside and he found lots of drains and was therefore satisfied. He also got frozen yoghurt with Boppa. Yum Yum!

The morning of the 4th, the kids and I walked around the lake at the crack of dawn, then had a relaxing morning at home. After the kids naps, we headed down to North Park, to BBQ with our good friends Adam and Maureen. Drew made his famous buffalo shrimp and that was gobbled up in no time. The kids did great and we had a fun time! We ended our evening with Papi coming over for Tapas and then fireworks at Bradley Park. We found a spot on a grassy area near the park and witnessed Tristan and Kira's first introduction to an all American firework show. It was awesome! Both of them loved it. Tristan kept saying, "oh wow". Kira didn't know what to think, but she didn't seem bothered by the loud noice of the fireworks.

The next morning, Kira woke up with with a runny nose and fever (partially due to teething), but it was really cold the night before and she was out until 9:30pm! It was up and down all day and she was pretty cranky, poor thing. Then Tristan and I left for his friend Erin's birthday party. And Drew and Kira stayed home. We got a call about halfway through that Kira got her foot stuck in her crib during her nap and was very mad. Poor thing! We came home and took another walk around the lake (this always calms the kids down if they're cranky or hyper). It helped Kira relax, and Tristan came down off of his sugar high from the birthday cake he had at the party.

Kira was up all night feverish, but thank you Jesus, Tristan slept through it all! It's amazing how that happens. This morning, we went to get Tristan's hair cut and he was such a good boy. He just sat there still and quiet while the lady cut his hair. Then she gave him a green balloon and he was thrilled! Kira's fever is still fluctuating around 101.5, but the little bit of fresh air did her good. Now both the kids are napping and I am going to clean the house since it looks like a tornado hit. I may take a nap myself, and then start brainstorming on how we should celebrate Kira's first birthday ... just a month away and she will be 1 year old! Woohoo!

"ABCD"

I can't believe it's Thursday already. This week is flying by. Monday and Tuesday we hung out with Tristan's friends in the neighborhood (Erin and Maile), because Maile was leaving for vacation on Wednesday, and I think Tristan has developed a little crush on her. Soooo cute. Wednesday we had Genesis and Jaida over for a couple of hours to play (my friend Helen's daughters). We had so much fun. Kira liked having other girls in the house for a change! They are much more gentle and sensitive. I realized that my wish for 5 children was insane. 4 is fun for a couple of hours, but I just don't know how my mom did it her whole life (and continues to do it!). I have gained a new respect for her for having 4 daughters. I can barely handle my two kids without losing it.

Kira is teething again, and it's so hard to see her miserable. She is such a happy baby normally that it breaks my heart to hear her cry. Tristan tries to cheer her up, and most of the time it works, but the rest of the time she just wants to be cuddled - which I absolutly love, because on a normal day, she'd rather be left to play by herself and she gets mad if I cuddle her. So I am good with this. But I do wish I could take her pain away. Thank the Lord for Hylands Homeopathic Teething Tablets - they are miraculous!

Today we had a playdate at Tristan's friend, Trevor's house. They had fun playing in the backyard, and Kira was fascinated with their dog Ginger. She thought the doggie was funny and would laugh everytime she came around Kira. After nap, we went over to my Grandpa and Grandma's house and hung out for a bit. Papi was there too, and Tristan liked that very much! We listened to Kira sing and watched Tristan as he investigated all the doors in the house and had an encounter with the water dispenser in their refridgerator door. It was great to see them and catch up and laugh at life, kids, etc.... My grandma is looking good. Tired, but healthier than the last time I saw her. She has pancreatic cancer and is currently undergoeing her 2nd round of chemotherapy. She had no energy and sleeps all the time. Please pray that her appetite increases in order to stay healthy and strong!

Today, as I was walking downstairs, from putting Kira down for a nap, I heard Tristan singing his "ABC's". It was the first time, and I nearly passed out with excitement. It went something like this: "ABC ... DE .... LOP ... Q .... TU .... ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ". Ah, it was adorable. I love that he left out letters, and only emphasized his favorites. Wish I had that video camera ready. I will be ready next time, that's for sure.

Well, now the kids are in bed, and I am off to hang out with my adorable, skinny(he's lost 35lbs!), and talented husband who just got offered a job at Sony Media as a Senior Web Developer! I am so proud of him!

"Daddy, Pool" and "Bye-Bye Balloon"

We stayed home from church this morning, because Tristan just got over his fever and rash that he got when he was at Sunday School last week, and we didn't want him getting sick again so soon ...

Drew and Kira slept in this morning, and so Tristan and I went to the grocery store for an urgent need for creamer so that we could make coffee. I must admit that I have fallen prey to the coffee addiction. And I've got to have my creamer to go with it. Silly me. Anyways, so we went to the store and a really nice employee gave Tristan a red balloon. It made his day. He was so excited to bring it home and show it to Daddy and Sissy. (More of the balloon story will continue later ...)

After nap, Drew took Tristan to the pool in the red wagon. This was another dream come true for such a little dude. Every day, Tristan asks for his daddy to take him to the pool. Shortly after they left, me and Kira decided to join them. We had fun splashing around, and it just so happens that Kira is a little fish and loves the water. Tristan was more fascinated with the drains in the pool, the water fountains by the bathrooms, and his excitement was over the "trip to the pool", not actually going into the pool.

We got back, and then Papi came over for the evening. We had an eventful dinner together with Kira trying real carrots for the first time (not pureed), and Tristan making silly faces. Then Tristan showed Papi his red balloon, and kept trying to take it outside. We told him that if he took the balloon outside, it would fly away. It seemed that was what Tristan wanted. So we went out and Tristan let the balloon go, much to his amusement, and we all watched it fly away. It's amazing how something so simple can be the highlight of the evening. We were all very entertained as we tried to keep our eyes on it as it headed toward Escondido ... to Boppa's house, we decided.

And now, the kids are in the bed, the house is quiet once again (except for the hum of the dishwasher), and I look back and realize what a wonderful day we had and what fun it was to have my dad over for dinner. Both kids adore him and it was great to have some quality time with him, telling stories, playing with Drew's new iphone, and sending balloons off to outer space. What a blessing it is to have family close by. Mom and girls, ya need to hurry home, you are all greatly missed!

Saturday

The kids and I walked around the lake early this morning and stopped by the park to play on the way home. We had lots of fun playing in the sand and running around the park. It's going to be a hot day today so it was good that we got some time outside in the cool of the morning. I have attached some pictures of the three of us this morning for your enjoyment! Tristan still has a rash all over, so it looks as though we'll be hybernating this weekend. So far Kira hasn't shown any signs of sickness, so it may be possible that this has passed her by!

We went out to lunch as a family today. All four of us! I think that would be a first. It was so much fun. The kids had a blast and so did we. It was a nice little outing on a hot Saturday afternoon. Then we went to Marshalls to find some work shirts for Drew (he's lost 32 lbs!), and it was so cute to watch Tristan helping his daddy find a good shirt. Tristan would look at the price tag and then touch the shirt to make sure it felt okay before giving Drew his approval. But then he found the electronics section and Tristan was in paradise. He takes after his father when it comes to gadgets and such! Kira and I were just there for moral support.

And now the kids are in bed, and the house is quiet, and I thank God for blessing us with a fun and relaxing day as a family.

Nature Walk

The kids and I went on our first nature walk together at Jacks Pond Park this afternoon. It was a riot! We had fun exploring the trails behind the park. Tristan led the way and me and Kira followed. It was so beautiful out and so refreshing to be in nature and looking at plants, trees, leaves, pine cones, and bugs. Drew is out getting buffalo wings with Scott tonight so we're home alone! Tristan just helped me put Kira to bed, and now him and I have time to play together. He just brought me his basket of books and a "tap tap tap" to my shoulder, so it looks like we'll be doing lots of reading tonight. Fun fun fun! "Here I come, Tristan" ... and I'm off. Until tomorrow ...

Welcome To My Blog

I've managed in the past the news updates of my wedding website, my kids' individual blogs, and facebook. But now I've decided it's time for my own train of thought and daily adventures to be written down for the pure enjoyment of the public.

This past week we have been in quarantine. Tristan had a high fever and now has broken out with a rash all over. Poor little guy. They say its just a viral infection (that he probably got from sunday school) that has to run its course, but it is contagious, so we are praying little Kira doesn't get it! He's been up all night the past 2 nights, but luckily Kira just slept right through it all ...

We've managed to find fun things to do in the house, like build forts with couch cushions, create a band with pots and pans and kitchen utensils, make coffee together, do laundry together, and watch The Wiggles over and over and over and over.

This morning we took a walk to the lake to feed the ducks and the birds and both Tristan and Kira loved it. Tristan also pointed out every drain, sprinkler, and landmark post as we walked around the lake. It's so cute seeing the things that fascinate him. As I am writing this, Tristan is trying to figure out how to take the doors off of his play kitchen and put them back on. And Kira is supposed to be napping, but I hear her singing and "baa-ing" like a sheep in her crib.

That's it for now, time to play. What a wonderful job I have!
